San Diego Union Tribune Review

It's the words of the characters, their strength against perils, their loathing of the war of the angels, that will occasionally stop the reader in his tracks. Witness, for instance, Finnan's bitter, profane (not just linguistically) monologue on the gods of old; it's a piece of work I had to share with friends instants after reading it. Very impressive, very moving book.

Dude, if you can get through to the Union-Tribune — a paper that is one of the chief reasons I can never move back to San Diego — that is fuckin’ amazing.

(Although the fact that they’ve hired a book reviewer who lives in Normal Heights is a good sign in itself.)
