Oh, and as for your post about pretentiousness, I'd actually recommend you The Raw Shark Texts: it's not a perfect book, but it's a solid debut and I have the feeling that you'd enjoy at least on a conceptual level a postmodern adventure novel about a man whose memories unleash a conceptual shark--a beast made out of words and concepts--that chases him around (the finale is copied straight from Jaws, down to tiny details, but run through a surrealistic blender).
Ugh, I used "concept" in some form three times within one sentence. Terrible morning.
