Crawford Short List
Cool! According to Cheryl Morgan over at Emerald City, VELLUM is on the short list for the Crawford Award. Better still, it's up there with some really neat stuff including SPOTTED LILY, the first novel of one of my current favourite writers, Anna Tambour, whose short story collection, MONTERRA'S DELICIOSA I'm absolutely loving at the moment, relishing each tale for a literary taste as unique and exquisite as the bletted medlars of "Valley of the Sugars of Salt". At some point I have to get round to blogging about just how much I love her approach to the natural world, plants and animals alike, how it gives her work a really quite distinctive quality, fabulous in every way. And if you're not reading Anna's blog, btw, you bloody well should be -- "Adventures of discovering the ellemehnopee", the latest entry is... well, just go and read it... on you go... shoo!
Anyway... just wanted to say: hoorah! I'm doubly chuffed!

Well, it will be if he wins!
Really chuffed for you - and we'll still let you know when you're about to become insufferable! ;-)
Al: Excellent work on the Broderick Crawford Award!!!! Best of luck with it.

How kind you are, Hal. And I am thrilled that our children are together in this list. I am not surprised at all about VELLUM. I expected nothing less, and expect much more. For its bravery alone, I wish there were a special prize. You certainly twiddled your hair out of the way and laid your long neck on the block, next to the hatchet in VELLUM.
The Crawford is one of the few awards that consistently has a kickass shortlist. It rocks.
That's kick ass! Congrats Hal!
CONGRATS!
