Congratulations!
... which reminds me of something Hannes told me yesterday: At the book fare in Frankfurt, an agent from Canada told him about this amazing book that she just read, and if he liked Marc Danielewski's 'House of Leaves', he should really look into it, it's about nanotech angels and Sumerian mythology and the first world war ...

Whereupon Hannes: "Yep. Just translated it."

I would have payed good money to see that!

Congrats Hal! You do great work and its a well deserved title. Gotta buy you that pint one day... someday. Not sure when I will be back in the homeland. :-)

How is your rewrite of Gilgamesh epic coming along? I have not been by for a while so I have kind of lost track of what you are up to these days...

Talk soon!

Of course you got the award, Vellum is fucking amazing. I picked up Vellum because I thought it looked pretty cool, maybe a little over-done, and reading it blew my mind. After reading it, I was speechless.

Reading Vellum was confusing, enthralling, and inspiring all at the same time, and at differing intervals. In regards to Jack, I began to believe that freedom really is possible. In regards to Jack and Thomas, my belief in love was, and is, restored. In regards to Seamus, I love Seamus, his attitude and outlook and obstinance was, and still is, invigorating.

Thank you for having homosexual lead characters. That was another thing I did not expect from the random encounter that has been my relationship with Vellum, and it was one of the greatest gifts any book has ever given me (it is utterly refreshing to see queer lead characters in a book, as it has not been my experience to read about them very often.)

You award was well deserved, thank you for writing Vellum and Ink.

hey, award-winning Halosaurus! Just posted up meeting details for the November meeting of the Edinburgh SF Book Group and enjoyed being able to say we were going to be discussing an award-winning novel :-) You know I've loved it since I first saw it, really interested to see what the rest of our merry little band make of it:
